The research in nanoscience and nanotechnology
has been drawing more and more attention from the academia, industrial and
government. The past a few years has witnessed a sharp increase in
interest of research and development of nanostructured materials and
nanoscale characterization and fabrication techniques. In the mean time,
the federal budget on nanoscience research, so called National
Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI), has been increased linearly since year
2000, when the Clinton administration got the NNI started.
