Our work is focused in the design and synthesis of interesting new materials including solids, polymers, and self-assembled films. Potential applications are in optoelectronics, catalysis, separations, tissue engineering, and drug delivery. We are interested in molecular recognition, supramolecular assembly, and photophysical properties of materials. We are also interested in the development of new chemical education methods that will aid students in obtaining and practicing problem-solving skills. Funding for our research has been obtained from the National Science Foundation, the Petroleum Research Fund which is administered by the American Chemical Society, the American Cancer Society, and the SIUC Materials Technology Center.
