Interdisciplinary Materials Research, Research Experience for Undergraduates
With funding from the National Science Foundation, Southern Illinois University will sponsor research opportunities for undergraduates in disciplines related to Interdisciplinary Materials Research in Chemistry, Physics, and Engineering during the summer of 2015. The REU Program is principally focused on providing students with the opportunity to carry out research at the forefront of materials science and engineering. Potential projects span a broad range of topics under the guidance of faculty from the departments of Chemistry & Biochemistry, Physics, and Engineering and Microbiology. The available research topics are chosen to complement the research of associated faculty.
Anticipated dates of this year’s program are from Monday, June 8, 2015, to Friday, August 7, 2015 (9 weeks). In order to be eligible, students must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Those students selected for the program will receive a stipend worth approximately $4,500. The students will also be provided space in a 2-person room in University Housing paid for by the University. (The interns are expected to pay for their own meals.) Students are also provided with a travel allowance of $750.00, to help defray the cost of traveling to and from SIUC or to travel to a scientific conference.
The Review of Applications is expected to begin around March 1, 2015, so please have your applications to the REU Site Coordinator by that date.
