ACS Project SEED


Project SEED is a program administered by the American Chemical Society (ACS) that offers a unique opportunity for local high school students to spend a summer conducting hands-on research with a scientist in a laboratory setting. The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at SIUC has five(5)openings in five (5) research laboratories for students this summer.
Students will work 8-10 weeks and will be awarded a $2,500 fellowship. Students who satisfactorily complete the first summer and who have not yet entered college may return for a second summer of research and receive a $3000 award.
Eligibility for Students:

  1. Must have taken high school science courses and be recommended by their teacher.
  2. Should be a commuting student.
  3. Should have completed a one-year introductory high school chemistry course
  4. Should not be matriculated in college.
  5. Project SEED is designed mainly for economically disadvantaged high school students but exceptions to income eligibility may apply.
